Dr. and Mrs. Maggard along with Broadway Baptist Church started Broadway Christian School in September 1965, the same year that they arrived in Virginia. Until 1971, the school only offered kindergarten classes. In those early years, before public kindergarten, the classes were full, therefore many students began their education at Broadway. In 1971, the school added all grades up through eighth and the following year all the way to twelfth. Over the past fifty-three years, the school has had years with high enrollment and years with low enrollment, nevertheless, the school has continued to educate students not only in academics but also regarding spiritual matters. Dr. Maggard was the administrator of the school. Both Dr. Maggard and Mrs. Maggard taught classes, drove the bus at times, and served in other capacities in the school until they were no longer able to. Their legacy continues as Broadway Christian School endeavors to educate students academically and spiritually “For the glory of the Lord and the children's sake.”
